Switchable and tunable multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser based on hollow core anti-resonant fiber

Abstract:A novel in-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) based on hollow core anti-resonant fiber (HCARF) is proposed, incorporating with Lyot filter and nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) mechanism, a switchable and tunable multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser (MWEDFL) is realized. The MZI is composed of graded-index multimode fiber (GIMF) and HCARF, which has a GIMF-HCARF-GIMF (GHG) structure. Numerical simulations indicate that the wavelength selection and the transmission spectrum modulation of the GHG-MZI are resulted from the mode interferences between LP01 and LP11 modes, and between two LP11 modes with a small effective mode refractive index difference, respectively. The MWEDFL in this work shows advantages in wavelength number, wavelength tuning range, and side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR), which are 10, 35 nm, and 59 dB, respectively. Our work provides a new solution for multi-wavelength generation and regulation, which will further enhance the potential application values of MWEDFLs.
